TARGOBANK emerged from the German subsidiary of American Citibank. It still operates under a German banking license but has been part of Crédit Mutuel, a cooperative and France's fifth-largest bank, since 2008.
TARGOBANK is a full-service retail bank headquartered in Düsseldorf, with a network of branches and a strong online presence. TARGOBANK's offerings are designed to serve private individuals and small business owners. This includes a wide range of financial products, such as current accounts, credit and loan products, savings and investment accounts, and retirement solutions. The bank aims to combine personalised service with digital convenience, allowing customers to conduct everyday banking either in-branch or via its online and mobile channels.
Deposits held with TARGOBANK are protected by Germany’s statutory deposit guarantee scheme (Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken) up to 100,000 euros per client under EU law.
In addition to the statutory protection, TARGOBANK participates in the voluntary deposit protection fund of the Association of German Banks (Bankenverband), which extends coverage above the statutory minimum for eligible depositors. Germany’s sovereign credit rating remains at the highest possible level (AAA), supporting stability and confidence in its banking system.
The Festgeld at TARGOBANK can be managed through an online banking portal as well as its mobile app (iOS and Android), where you can view balances, make transfers, and manage your TARGOBANK fixed-term deposit. The multi-language smartphone application supports German, English, French, Spanish, and Catalan. Online banking is available in German and English. However, the website and customer support are only available in German.
There is also customer support via telephone, contact form, and in the physical branches. Employees with respective language skills may be available to provide support in English.
To open the Festgeld with TARGOBANK, you can start the process online via the bank’s website or in the branch. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; however, special account options are available for minors. A German address is required to open an account. Moreover, you need a European current account (SEPA with IBAN) as a reference account linked to your fixed-term deposit to perform withdrawals.
The online opening process must be finalized through personal identification with ID or passport (depending on nationality) by webcam (VideoIdent), at a post office (PostIdent), or in the TARGOBANK branch.
