Klarna Bank is part of the Swedish fintech company Klarna Group, founded in 2005 and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Its stocks have been publicly listed at the New York Stock Exchange since 2025.
Initially focused on providing “buy now, pay later” payment solutions, Klarna has expanded into consumer banking services, including deposits, credit cards, and savings accounts. Klarna Bank offers its products digitally to European customers, combining innovative fintech solutions with traditional banking functions. Klarna operates under Swedish banking regulation and is supervised by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority.
Deposits at Klarna Bank are protected under the Swedish national deposit insurance scheme (Riksgälden), which guarantees up to 1,150,000 Swedish Crowns (100,000 euros, depending on the exchange rate) per depositor. Sweden maintains the best possible sovereign credit rating (AAA), reflecting stable economic conditions and a robust banking system.
The Festgeld+ at Klarna is managed via the Klarna App (iOS and Android) or via Klarna’s web-based wallet interface. Users can view balances, track interest accrual, create several flexible savings accounts and fixed-term deposits, transfer funds, and manage their debit or credit cards.
Customer support is available via in-app chat. In total, the Klarna mobile app and customer service are available in 16 languages. However, not every language may be fully supported when residing in Germany.
To open the Festgeld+ at Klarna, you need to register via the Klarna App. The process requires you to be at least 18 years old and to undergo identity verification. KIarnaIdent is the company's own identification process, which requires you to upload a selfie and a photo of your ID. You may also be asked to link your existing EU bank account to Klarna.
Once verified, your fixed-term deposit is ready. No minimum deposit is required, and funds can be transferred to any account via the linked Klarna current account.
