In addition to standard day-to-day banking and payments, bunq offers savings features - including dedicated savings accounts that let users set aside money, earn interest, and manage funds directly through the bunq mobile app. Its platform is designed for people who prefer fully digital banking without traditional branch networks.
Deposits held with bunq are protected under the Dutch statutory deposit guarantee scheme (Het Depositogarantiestelsel), which covers eligible deposits up to 100,000 euros per depositor and bank in accordance with EU law. The bunq "Festgeld" is managed primarily through the mobile app (available for iOS and Android), and a desktop web portal is also available. To open the bunq "Festgeld", start the process in the bunq mobile app; the QR code or link is available on the website. Applicants must reside in a supported European country (the European Union or the European Economic Area) and be at least 18 years old. However, parents or guardians can open accounts for their minor children.
The onboarding process involves entering personal information and completing identity verification. This is done by uploading a photo of your valid ID or passport and a video with your face recorded with through the mobile app. Once your identity is confirmed and compliance checks are completed, your bunq fixed-term deposit is activated and ready for use. A separate reference account is not required.
